Sunday Sunday Sunday!! Alley Cat Race

desoto row friday!

At the "junk in the trunk" craft fair at desoto row on 40th and bull on friday I'll be selling some books that I've made and also these ipod sleeves that I made. They are all second hand fabrics with prints I carved out of linoleum and hand sewn. Come on out there is going to be lots of fun stuff to buy. It'll be a great place to get christmas gifts!

i haven't posted anything in a while so i thought i would put up pages from my sketchbook that i've been working on for fun.

Gun

Last night, instead of doing my homework I made a linoleum print of this Kurt Vonnegut illustration and quote from Breakfast of Champions. I printed it on some papers and fabrics and made a sweet embroidered patch and a case for my ipod today. I'm quite pleased.

Books!

We learned how to make case bound books at book club. I made these two. The small one is for writing down quotes that I hear from people. I'm excited about it.

(Case bound)

Phase 1

This is the first phase of my still life for drawing. I'm excited about how it's going to turn out.

Artichokes are my favorite vegetables!

Drawing class

This is my hallway drawing from my drawing class. It turned out alright. Excuse the crappy photo of it though, I took it with my telephone.

Breakfast of Champions

"Ideas on Earth were badges of friendship or enmity. Their contents did not matter. Friends agree with friends in order to express friendliness. Enemies disagree with enemies in order to express enmity."

african proverb

If you have a voice, you can sing.
If you have feet, you can dance.

one of my favorite poems

"Literal"
when they said he could walk on water
what it sounds like to me
is he could float like a butterfly
and sting like a bee
literal people are scary, man
literal people scare me
out there trying to rid the world
of its poetry
while getting it wrong fundamentally
down at the church of "look,
it sez right here, see!"
-Ani Difranco
“Practical cleverness beats the crap out of spiritual wisdom on the battlefield and in the marketplace, as the West has made clear over the last 500 years. But cleverness without wisdom sooner or later destroys life. Maybe we can work out something here: let spiritual wisdom and practical cleverness meet each other halfway- where they can reach a dynamic equilibrium that brings us back into harmony with life as a whole.” -Anonymous

"All my bones, they are gone, gone, gone.
Take my bones, I don't need none.
Cold, cold cupboard, lord, nothing to chew on!
Suck all day on a cherry stone.
Dig a little hole not three inches round-
Spit your pit in the hole in the ground.
Weep upon the spot for the starving of me!
Till up grows a fine young cherry tree.
When the bow breaks, what'll you make for me?
A little willow cabin to rest on your knee.
What'll I do with a trinket such as this?
Think of your woman, who's gone to the west.
But I'm starving and freezing in my measly old bed!
Then I'll crawl across the salt flats, to stroke your sweet head.
Come across the desert with no shoes on!
I love you truly,
or I love no-one."

-Joanna Newsom
"And how did we then face the odds,
Of man's rude slapstick, yes, and God's?
Quite at home and unafraid,
Thank you,
In a game our dreams remade."
this is where my site name is from, I'm not really cynical.

and that is why I love Kurt Vonnegut.
So we pierced (by we I mean Jake) my lovely friend Erica's lip last night. It was quite the event. I got nauseous, I hate needles. It turned out really nice though, I like how it looks on her. Success!

This is my new favorite album that I have on vinyl. It's beautiful. Thanks for the recommendation, Alee.
"And thank God that there's no such thing as a battle between strangers any more. I don't care who fights who--everybody will have relatives on the other side."
-Kurt Vonnegut (from Slapstick)

This is an illustration I did about two years ago. It is one if my favorites. You can view it from either this direction or directly flipped upside down. Industrial vs. natural surrealism.

I'm sitting in the library in "speech class" not researching my topic on deforestation like I should be. But I felt that this painting by Daniel Chang applied.

This is a poster by Mat Daly. He has some really amazing prints. I love Andrew Bird and I feel like this suits him well.
